Agmir had just finished releasing the pale male from the manacles that had attached him to the rafters, when the ship suddenly shuddered and started to tilt. He was slammed into the wall for a moment, and stared out the window at the back of the cabin, wondering what was happening. Had one of the girls made their move already? They were changing direction.
"I..." he stammered, "What's your name?" he asked the man. "I need to know what to call you. And I think we'd better get up on deck soon, because something's going on up there that probably has to do with us. You look like the type of man who'd enjoy a good fight, yes? Well there's probably one brewing. If I remember anything about how these ships work, we'll need hostages to take it over, and the best hostage we can get is either the Captain or the Lord Harvester. I'm betting one or the other of them is in the Captain's cabin. That's right down the hall from us." -------------------- |

Things were not going as she had planned. The airship was listing to one side and the wind was trying to tear the ship apart. Abigale had fallen over and slid across the floor. She heard someone yell about turning to port. Abigale quickly climbed back to the helm and tried to turn it. It was extremly hard to move but she managed to start a turn. The ship was still out of control but it was not as chaotic as before. All Abigale knew was that she has been wrong about controlling an airship. They were nothing like a ballonship. Abigale continued to fight the helm to correct the ship as much as she could. As she pushed the helm it suddenly got easier. A crew member had grabbed the helm as well and the two were forcing the sails back, but the ship still seemed out of control. The sails seemed to be working against them. The helm was at it's limit so Abigale reached and engaged the lock. She looked at the crew member and wanted to give him orders but she was out of ideas. Perhaps they needed to lower the sails and stop the ship. At least they could get under control that way. But before she could speak the crew member was racing to the wind mages to get his orders on how to correct. Abigale followed the member to the mages and realized that the wind that drove the ship was artifical. It was not something she expected. She decided it was time to be passive and wait and see what happened.

After the Black Ship had begun its voyage, and they'd made a bit of distance out of port, the Lord Harvester and the Captain had convened in the Captain's Cabin to discuss the route for the trip, as was their usual process.
Now, the Captain bent over his desk, looking at the charts, while the Lord Harvester looked on with an unimpressed and neutral expression that conveyed the only emotion he ever seemed to express, that of arrogance and boredom. In one corner of the room, a woman in a black veil sat in a chair. The Lord Harvester had brought her along for the trip. Her hands, covered with black gloves, were in her lap, and she stared at at the wall from beneath the black veil that covered her head. She said nothing, and did not move. "Should be to Dwalkin in three days time if everything goes well," said the Captain. "What of this girl you've brought along?" "I want you to keep her here," said the Lord Harvester. "She's to be left alone. Not to worry, her mind is only rudimentary. She'll obey simple orders, but beyond that she's vacant, an empty vessel constructed by the Drow for some unfathomable purpose that the Dark One has in mind. She's meant as a gift to him." The Captain raised an eyebrow. "Aye, well then, why you want ME to be watchin after the wench? Why not stick her in you're own cabin?" The Lord Harvester gave the Captain a dull expression and didn't say anything. "Alright then," muttered the Captain. "She'll be safe enough here then. I'll jest, er... let her sit in me chair until we arrive. I don't 'spose she'll be pissin in me chair will she?" The Lord Harvester was about to answer this question when the ship suddenly turned and everything in the cabin that wasn't tied down, meaning everything on the desk, went sliding to the floor. The two men, both used to riding in the ship, grabbed something and steadied themselves. "What in HELL!" shouted the Captain. "That damned Navigator has the brains of a rotting zombie. I should have replaced him with a daywalker from the hold. At least they don't change directions in the midst of a wind drive." Both men stumbled toward the cabin door. |

Ezira Escallia struggled with the conus, doing her best to revoke or shift the wind pattern approaching them. But then the rudder turned and the sails angled rightly, causing the ship to return to it's previous course. They were saved!
"HELM!" she screamed, turning to face the front of the vessel. "Who is at the helm?" But no one responded. She could see some activity there. It looked as though one of the deck hands had taken control. That would be sufficient for now, but the Captain had best get on deck. Something had gone horribly wrong, and while they were safe for the moment, the coming storm would be upon them, doubling their speed. "The push is coming!" she shouted. "Brace for wind!" Grabbing on to a support, she knelt down and prepared herself. |
